When crossed with any ewe, the Bluefaced Leicester produces the famous Mule.
The majority of the cross-bred ewes in the UK are sired by the Bluefaced
Leicester.

Mule flocks have recently shown to be the most profitable commercial sheep
enterprise.

The prolificacy, milkiness and conformation passed on to the Mule ewe from
the Bluefaced Leicester makes her the perfect prime lamb producer, when
put to any sire.

The need for quality prime lamb production leaves the Mule as the
outstanding basis for a market which demands the best quality at least cost.

This medium sized cross-bred sheep, sired by the Bluefaced Leicester, has a
Swaledale or Northumberland type Blackface dam.

The hybrid vigour produced by crossing pure breeds - the prolific, milky, lean
fleshed and early maturing Bluefaced Leciester with the hardy hill ewe results
in the Mule retaining the best qualities of both.

Scotch Mules are born and bred in harsh Scottish conditions.

They are the progeny of the most numerous sheep breed in Britian, the hardy
adaptable Scottish Blackface ewe. Their sire is the super-prolific milky
Bluefaced Leicester. This hybrid combination produces a crossbred ewe
ideal for today's sheep industry.

100,000+ Scotch Mules are sold from mid-August onwards. A high percentage
of which are in the Premium Health Scheme. Most of the lambs at the earlier
sales are suitable for breeding in their first year. Shearlings come forward
at seperate sales, these consist of both maiden and suckled animals.

Welsh Mule

Welsh Mules
Welsh Mule Sheep
Welsh Mules are the progeny of a registered Bluefaced Leicester ram crossed with the Welsh Mountain, Beulah or Welsh Hill Speckled-face ewes, all hardy, healthy Welsh hill breeds which impart their best qualities to their offspring.

Even the ewe lambs produce prolific lamb crops and their superior mothering instinct and excellent milking qualities ensure a very high percentage of live lambs reared.

The Welsh Mule adapts readily to a wide variety of management systems.  It is easy to house and handle while it's hardiness, good foraging abilities, superior mothering qualities and prolificacy ensure a relatively trouble-free lambing season.  As an added bonus, the high-quality fleece, a characteristic inherited from the breed sire, commands top prices.
