North East Open Day
|
20th August at Nookton Farm, Blanchland, Consett and Rosehill, Bishop Auckland. |
Nicky Robinson NE Chairman “What promises to be a cracking day starts at 9.30, at the White Monk Tearooms at Blanchland. Guests will be welcomed with coffee and biscuits before travelling the four miles to Nookton for 10.30. The Flock that will be on view comprises mostly of Nunscleugh, College, Orravale and Scarrowmanwick bloodlines, though influences still abound from way back when flocks such as Ilkley Moor, Hutton Park, Lowes Fell, Currick Hill and Yore House were used. On show will be the entire crop of mule lambs with the added delight of seeing many sire and progeny groups including all the Nookton shearlings that worked and the offspring from last years purchases from Hafrena, Blaendunhonw, Cannington, Yore House and Croftstyle. A Stockjudging Competition will be run with four classes to be judged by Philip Walton of Wanwood Hill. Lunch will be served by one o'clock, before leaving for Rosehill which will take 20 minutes, arriving hopefully just after 2pm. Rosehill is one of the longest established flocks in the Association with a string of show and sale ring successes going back many years. Again there will be a stockjudging competition with Arthur Yeats judging. There will be prizes at both events, including an overall award. Refreshments will again be available about 4.30pm . Nookton and Rosehill will be well signposted locally and Blanchland is well covered from all directions. However for a rough guide Blanchland is 10 miles south of Hexham on the B6306. Nookton is 4 miles up stream of there, just past Hunstanworth and Rosehill is in the heart of Weardale, just west of Eastgate. We're all looking forward to seeing a good many of you on the 20th , and if any of you feel you could be arriving at Nookton early, could you please bring a paint brush!”
Denis.
