Still in its infacy, the Penrith sale is already starting to gain a decent reputation for some good crossing tups, and on this its fifth sale here after moving from the old Lazonby site, saw its highest price yet, with a bid of £4200, and some keen bidding for some of the better lambs

Topping the trade was Jack Lawson from the Hundith flock, following on from his success at Hawes last week saw his lamb by the same tup, Y1 Midlock and out of a ewe by the V3 Kentmere. John Wharton, the auctioneer, dropped the hammer at £4200 to noted mule breeders, Jim Pedley, Yore House.

Messrs Lords, Hewgill, always noted for selling some high quality stock were were back in the action, selling 2 tup lambs by the noted V45 Hewgill for £1000 and £900.
Champion on the day, as judged by stand in Judge, John Townson, was from John Stott, host of next years North Sheep. He was as pleased as punch to claim his first ever Champion ticket, and sold this son of a £3500 Nunscleugh for £700 to Victor Kitson from Northern Ireland.

Trade again was selective, and shearling especially were hard to find buyers. Flockmasters are looking increasingly to better confirmation and carcase qualities.
