A new centre record was established at the recent Bluefaced Leicester sale at Lanark, when the overall champion from Hazel Brown, Leadburnlea, placed by David Bryson, sold for £2600. This very smart lamb by the £2000 Z1 Kirkstead and out of an Espley X2 sired ewe had been placed at the Highland show, and was much admired by many breeders and the hammer fell to D Gray for the Boreland flock, who thought that it was one of the best type of sheep out this back end.
Trade overall was good, with every ram lamb forward sold, and shearlings sold well too, with a top bid of £720 hit twice, first was a son of A3 Mains of Larg from John Warnock, Coultermuir, selling to Allanton Farming. The second prize shearling also hit the same price, this was from R Struthers with a tup by the noted N25 Nunscleugh, which sold to Messrs Edgar, Mains farm.
The reserve champion came from B & E Welsh, Roundhaw, with a two crop ewe, which later sold for £300.
