A fantastic atmosphere prevailed right from the start from the pens and alleys into the sale ring with standing room only, the most buyers and interest seen for many a year at this sale, complimenting the draft ewe sale extremely well, which is held before the Leicester's go under the hammer.
Topping the sale was a very well bred ram lamb from Richard Hutchinson, Kirkby Redgate. This lamb being sired by a £3500 A4 Gragareth, which was used extensively in the Redgate Mules this year and out of a ewe by the £10,000 W1 Keerdam, selling for £4000 to Mr Sayer, Pear Tree flock.
Messrs Lord, Hewgill flock from North Stainmore, which have supported this sale from the out set had a wonderful trade for both shearling rams and ram lambs. Their reserve ram lamb sold for £2000 sired by Z14 Hewgill and going to Mr Handley, Archers Hall. Their Shearlings were all creating interest with a full brother to their prolific stock ram, Z14 Hewgill, going under the hammer and selling for £1800 to Messrs Armstrong, Terrace and another shearling sired by Z14 joining the Carryhouse flock for £1600.
Michael James of the Duhonw flock was making his debut at the sale and took the championship with a lamb sired by A5 Hawkswell E+ sold for £1600 to Messrs Archer, Carryhouse. Michael followed this up with £1200 for his third ram to Mr Mitchell, Stirling. He had foward some outstanding looking tups, full of crossing bloodlines which were well sort after.
Todhills flock which was well followed had a colourful lamb at £1600 to Mr G Wharton, Keisley.
