On
the 21st of August, the Scottish
flock visit started at Cassington
Farm, Maybole, Ayrshire by kind
permission of the Drummond family.
Mr Neale McQuistin welcomed a
crowd of over 150 members and
friends, then outlined a brief history
about the flock. Visitors were then
shown the flock in groups - ewes,
gimmers, ewe lambs, stock tups
and were also given the chance to
inspect the tup lambs and shearlings
to be sold at Castle Douglas
next month.
Stockjudging classes also took
place with Mr Robin Bell,
Knockairdie acting as Master
Judge. A novelty class of guess
the number of lambs four ewes
had in their lifetime. A prize of six
straws of Knockairdie Blue Diamond
semen was won by Mr Tom Veitch,
Low Creoch, Castle Douglas.
After lunch, the stockjudging results
were announced and prizes were
given out by Mr Jimmy Strawhorn
on behalf of Cassingtons sponsors
R H Goldie Feed Merchants,
Dundonald. Overall winner at
Cassington was Mr John Maxwell,
Coshogle, Dumfries.
In the afternoon it carried on to
Craigskean, Maybole, Ayrshire by
kind permission of the Kerr family.
Mr Neale McQuiston again did a
short introduction about the flock.
Visitors went on to view his flock
of Bluefaced Leicesters and Mules.
His shearling tups to be sold at
Castle Douglas were penned with
their mule ewe lambs.

Stockjudging At Craigskean
Stockjudging then followed
sponsored by Davidsons Bros Feeds,
Shotts. Mr John Maxwell won at
Craigskean and also won the overall
for the day which was kindly
sponsored by Wallets Marts,
Castle Douglas. Master Judge at
Craigskean was Mr John
Smith-Jackson, Shafthill.
Visitors were then given the chance
to inspect the mule ewe lambs to be
sold at Castle Douglas.

Charity auction at Craigskean
Both the Drummond and Kerr
families put forward ewe lambs
for a charity auction. The
auctioneer was Mr Jim Craig
of Craig Wilson Auction Mart,
Ayr. Craigksean ewe lamb
reached £1000 to Mr Wallace
Parker, Old Hall, Newton Stewart
in aid of Ayrshire Hospice. Mr
John Dunlop of Kirkoswald
purchased the Cassington ewe
lamb for £400 in aid of Coronary
Care Department at Ayr Hospital.
Mr Jim Ross, Romesbeoch, Dumfries
rounded off the days proceedings
bythanking the Drummond and Kerr
families. Both families were
presented with a gift for all their
work.
