Glenn Shapiro was up against the elements as she judged the Royal Welsh Show this week, as the rain fell for the duration of the Bluefaced Leicester classes, despite the downpour, it didn't dampen the enthusiasm of the breeders as a large crowd was testament to the continued popularity of the breed in Wales and further afield.
Both the champion and reserve champions came from the same home as Phil May swept all before him. His champion was a very smart yearling ewe on her first outing this year is by a Rosehill tup he borrowed from Jackie McCloud and out of a ewe by the old Moss Vale tup. She is the half sister to Phil's top priced lamb at last years Builth sale, and there will be some similar bloodlines on offer again this autumn.
Phil's male champion was a Weston bred sheep, bought at Carlisle last autumn, by a Middles Dukesfield and out of a Nithsdale ewe. Again, it was making its show debut, and was up against some serious opposition
Credit must go once again to the breeders who turned up in their numbers and put on an excellent show, both in the ring and also on the Association's stand in the NSA area, with many positive comments about the sheep on the stand too.
