The Yorkshire show again proved to be a great event, with very strong classes especially in the female classes where judge B Nicholls, Heddon Valley flock, eventually picked his winner.
The supreme champion came out of the aged ewe class, with a Shrewbridge bred ewe from Jackie Mcleod's Wanstead flock who was making her debut at the show. This smart ewe is by the W3 Plasy Ward, and as well as taking the Anglesey championship last year, also produced last years 1st prize lamb at the Royal Welsh.
It was another debut to remember in the male section too as Frank Johnson, Ashes swept all before him with a shearling ram, owned in partnership with the Burndale flock. This strong shearling has power and style in plenty and caught Frank's eye at the Kelso sale last year when he bought it from Sid Ivinsons Addingham flock for £3500. He is by A3 Cocklaw and out of a ewe by X41 Clennell. Two of his sons stood 3rd and 4th in thier strong classes and will no doubt be worth keeping an eye out for this back end.
The reserve in the female section went to Nicky Robinson, Cocklaw Andres. The reserve in the male section went to a Burndale bred shearling bought from Builth Wells last autumn by Alec Bisset, Middle Dukesfield.
