Although numbers were down slightly at the Royal Welsh there was a good depth of quality for judge Raymond Harding to work his way through down at the UK's biggst show. The weather held up superbly for the event, and the crowd never thinned through the whole event. Rising to the top was a yearling from From Elfyn Owen, Cernyw. He bought the tup at Carlisle last year from Frank Johnston, Ashes for just 400 gns. It is by a Craig yr Orsedd ram and out of a ewe by a Pennine tup, and made a wonderful debut in the show ring, giving the Cernyw flock the championship for the third time.
Taking the reserve champion and reserve male ticket was an aged tup from Helen Wittle's Edgton Flock. The tup, bred at Clennell was bought as an aged ram from Elywn Owen last autumn at Builth sales.
In the female section it was a sharp, classy three crop female from Phil May which took the female championship. It was first in its class last year and this year took another step up. This Mossvale sired ewe has twin tup lambs heading to Builth later this year. If you want to get into the top quality bloodlines!
The reserve female was out of the Yorkshire Show champion from Jackie McLeod, and sired by the same tup as this year's champion, X3 Craig-yr- Orsedd.
