Bluefaced Leicesters At Oswestry Show Saturday 5th August 2006 |
This year Oswestry Show has been chosen as the venue for the prestigious Bluefaced Leicester Sheepbreeders' Progeny Show organised by the Welsh, Border and Southern Regions of the Association. This 'Show within a Show' will be held alongside the classified sheep classes and looks to bring entries of Bluefaced Leicesters from as far afield as Scotland, Northern England, Wales and the South West. This competition is one of the highlights of the Bluefaced Leicester year with classes chosen not only to emphasise the breed's pure characteristics but also to illustrate the excellent crossing abilities of this versatile breed. Naturally there are classes for pure bred sheep but also groups of cross lambs, sired by the Bluefaced Leicester, are shown - to prove the breeding capabilities of their sires. There are classes for different types of crosses eg Welsh Mules, Whiteface cross etc. and very popular Junior Handler Classes are scheduled, with excellent sponsored prizes. In addition, Association inspectors will be present to classify rams which are presented with their offspring. The progeny of rams with good classification such as 'Elite' and 'Elite plus' are much sought after in the Sales Rings later in the year. The inclusion of this event as part of Oswestry Show will no doubt bring out a terrific display of Bluefaced Leicesters on show day with many new exhibitors and spectators. |
